Data sheet
The THOR SET fragmentation protection vest is aimed at users who want to protect their upper body against fragmentation with a thin, lightweight and flexible insert. The insert is intended for use in a suitable vest cover or carrying cover to ensure a reliable fit, coverage and handling in everyday use.
The splinter protection performance is designed in accordance with STANAG 2920. STANAG 2920 is a NATO test standard for evaluating fragmentation protection. It is tested with a fragmentation simulation bullet, FSP for short, in this case with 1.1 g. The characteristic value V50 describes the speed at which, statistically speaking, half of the hits lead to penetration. For this product, the V50 value is at least 446 m/s.
Twaron aramid fiber is used as the protective material. Aramid is a high-strength fiber composite material that can absorb energy and reduce the effect of splinters. To ensure that the inlay remains as inconspicuous as possible when worn, it is designed to be thin, light and flexible. It is 3 mm thick and weighs 1.8 kg per square meter.
Ballistic splinter protection reduces the risk, but does not completely prevent injuries. Even without penetration, residual energy can act as blunt trauma to the body and cause injury. If you want to increase comfort and cushioning against blunt impact, a trauma protection insert (optional) may be useful.
The insole is manufactured in Germany and is guaranteed for 5 years.
The THOR SET is designed for use in the chest and back area and therefore aims to protect the lethal zone of the upper body. This area contains vital structures such as the heart and lungs as well as large blood vessels. Depending on the cut and fit of the stretcher cover, the upper abdominal area can also be partially covered.
The actual coverage depends on the size, the correct installation and the tight fit of the cover on the body. Make sure that the insert lies flat and is not twisted or kinked in the cover.
Always wear ballistic inserts with the strike face facing outwards, i.e. towards the outer shell. The strike face is either explicitly marked with "Strike Face" or, if unmarked, the strike face is the side without technical data or manufacturer information printed on it.
The side with technical data is always the reverse side and must be worn facing the body. Before use, check the correct fit in the case and make sure that the insert is fully inserted.
If soiled, clean the insert with a damp cloth. The welded TPU film prevents UV radiation and moisture from penetrating the aramid package. Do not use any chemical cleaning agents, as these can attack the TPU film and impair the performance of the aramid.
The insert is intended for use in the THOR protective vest (cover) and is worn in the slide-in compartments provided for this purpose. The insert may only be used in a suitable vest cover or carrying cover. Use without a cover is not permitted.
Other sleeves may affect the secure fit and coverage, as the cut and internal dimensions may vary depending on the manufacturer.
Note: This product has been specially designed for use by armed forces or law enforcement agencies.
