Selecting Tactical Vests and Carrying Systems Appropriate for the Mission

Vests and close-fitting carrying systems serve different purposes. Plate carriers are designed to accommodate appropriate protective plates and modular equipment. Depending on the model, protective vest systems can accommodate larger soft-ballistic panels and additional protective modules. Chest rigs, on the other hand, are primarily used to carry magazines, radios, medical equipment, and other operational gear within easy reach.

Zentauron develops and manufactures modular vest systems for military and law enforcement applications, security operations, select civilian use cases, as well as training, airsoft, and milsim.

Which system is suitable depends primarily on the required level of protection, the amount of equipment carried, the desired mobility, and the intended method of wear.

Which vest system is right for the task?

    Plate Carriers

Plate carriers are modular carrying systems designed to accommodate suitable protective plates. Depending on the specific model, soft ballistics, side protection components, front flaps, pockets, and other accessories can be added.

They are particularly well-suited for tasks that require combining hard body armor with a custom-tailored equipment configuration. The various models differ, among other things, in:

    • Cut and fit
    • Cummerbund and size adjustment
    • Closure and quick-release systems
    • MOLLE/PALS panels
    • Expansion options

Important Note: A fabric plate carrier provides no protective effect on its own without suitable ballistic inserts.

    Tactical protective vests

Tactical protective vests are designed for configurations that, depending on the model, can accommodate larger soft ballistic panels and additional protective modules.

Depending on the cut and system, neck, upper arm, or lower torso protection, as well as pouches and other equipment components, can be added. Protective vest systems are particularly suitable for missions where a more comprehensive protection configuration needs to be combined with carrying equipment close to the body.

The textile protective vest shell serves as the base carrier system. For effective protection, suitable inserts, their correct positioning, and confirmed compatibility with the respective shell are crucial.

    Chest Rigs

Chest rigs are lightweight carrying systems for magazines, radios, medical equipment, and other operational gear. They allow for quick access to the carried equipment and can be configured modularly depending on the model.

Compared to body armor vests and plate carriers, chest rigs are generally more open and less form-fitting. They are particularly suitable for users who:

    • require a high degree of mobility
    • carry a limited amount of gear
    • do not need an integrated mount for ballistic protection plates
    • want to combine the chest rig with a separate carrying system
    • are looking for a lightweight system for training, airsoft, or milsim

Important Note: A chest rig does not provide ballistic protection on its own.

Vest Systems for Civilian Tasks and Civil Defense

Visible or discreetly wearable vest systems may be suitable for selected civilian, law enforcement, and non-military tasks.

Depending on the model, such systems may be suitable for the following areas, among others:

    • Security services
    • Plant and property security
    • Emergency medical services
    • Public order services
    • Personal protection
    • Civil Protection and Disaster Response

For high-visibility operational vests, clear identification, reflective elements, and the ability to carry radio, medical, or other operational equipment may be the primary focus. Discreetly wearable systems, on the other hand, are designed for a flatter and more inconspicuous fit.

In this context, “civil” primarily refers to the operational profile and not to a distinct technical vest type. Depending on the task, protective vest covers, undershirts, or visibly worn operational vests may be appropriate.

Plate Carrier, Protective Vest, or Chest Rig?

The terms “tactical vest,” “protective vest,” “plate carrier,” and “chest rig” are often used interchangeably. However, the actual function of the system is decisive when making a selection:

    • Plate carrier: for carrying suitable protective plates and modular equipment.
    • Protective vest: for accommodating model-specific soft ballistic panels and supplementary protection modules.
    • Chest rig: for organizing equipment close to the body without providing ballistic protection itself.

Visibility, identification, or discreet carrying are additional requirements that depend on the specific mission. These may be relevant for security services, personal protection, emergency and law enforcement services, as well as in civil defense and disaster response.

    Selection Based on Mission Profile

For the German Armed Forces, police, and tactical units, protection configuration, modularity, mobility, and the distribution of carried equipment are often decisive factors.

A plate carrier is particularly suitable when protection plates and modular equipment are to be combined. A tactical protective vest is a good option when, depending on the model, larger soft ballistic areas or additional protective modules are required. A chest rig is ideal when mobility and quick access to equipment are priorities.

Security services, facility security, and personal protection require visible or discreetly wearable systems, depending on the task. In these cases, a low external profile, freedom of movement, radio integration, and an appropriate protection configuration can be important.

For emergency medical services, public order services, and civil defense and disaster response, visibility, clear identification, and quick access to radio, medical, or other operational equipment are often the top priorities.

For training, airsoft, and milsim, plate carriers and chest rigs are predominantly used. The primary focus here is on modularity, equipment organization, and practicing movement and operational procedures. A training configuration does not automatically provide ballistic protection.

    Properly Understanding Ballistic Protection

Textile vests, plate carriers, and chest rigs do not provide verified ballistic protection solely based on their design.

    The following are crucial:

    • suitable and compatible protective components
    • their verified technical properties
    • the correct size and positioning
    • the complete system configuration
    • the proper condition of the inserts

For more information on suitable protective components, see the Soft Ballistics and Hard Ballistics categories.

The technical specifications, protection information, and compatibility notes on the respective product page remain authoritative.

    Modular vest systems from Zentauron

Zentauron develops and manufactures modular vest and carrying systems in Germany. Depending on the model, these include MOLLE/PALS panels, adjustable carrying elements, interchangeable components, quick-release fasteners, identification panels, and mounting areas for compatible protective components.

The various systems are designed for different tasks and equipment configurations. Additional pouches, front panels, and accessories should be selected based on function, attachment method, dimensions, and confirmed compatibility.

Further information is available in the guide to attaching MOLLE equipment . You can find insights into development and manufacturing on the Zentauron Manufaktur website .

  • Radio bags

Radio Pouches for MOLLE, Belts, and Holstered Belts

Zentauron radio pouches allow you to carry various handheld radios within easy reach on MOLLE and PALS panels, plate carriers, vests, chest rigs, battle belts, backpacks, belts, and duty belts. The product line includes versatile pouches for various radio sizes as well as device-specific models for the SEM 52, AN/PRC-148, and AN/PRC-152.

All models are made of Cordura®. The MOLLE versions are attached using the Zentauron Faststick system. The key factors in selecting the right pouch are the radio being used, its external dimensions, the desired attachment method, and ease of access to the controls.

Which radio pouch is right for you?

The following overview will help you make an initial selection. “Mini” and “Midi” refer to adjustable radio pouches within the specified maximum dimensions. “MBITR” and “SEM 52” are designed for specific radio models or reference dimensions.

Model Compatible radios according to product specifications Dimensions Mounting
Mini Radio Pouch PMR, LPD, and select smaller BOS handheld radios Devices up to 11 cm in height and 8 cm in width MOLLE/Faststick
Midi Radio Pouch Larger CB, public safety, and VHF handheld radios Devices up to 20 cm in height and 8 cm in width MOLLE/Faststick
Midi Radio Pouch (belt-mounted) Larger handheld radios for belts or duty belts Dimensions must be verified against the product specifications Belt or duty belt
    MBITR Radio Pouch AN/PRC-148 and AN/PRC-152 Reference dimensions: 214 × 67 × 39 mm MOLLE/Faststick
    SEM 52 radio pouch German Armed Forces SEM 52 Radio Dimensions: approx. 219 × 95 × 39 mm MOLLE/Faststick

Before making a selection, compare the radio’s dimensions with the specifications for the respective model. Additionally, verify that the antenna, display, ports, buttons, and volume and channel controls remain accessible in the intended carrying position.

    Adjustable Radio Pouches

    Mini for compact handheld radios

The Mini radio pouch is designed for compact PMR, LPD, and select smaller BOS handheld radios. According to the product specifications, devices may be up to 11 cm high and 8 cm wide. The radio is inserted from the top and secured with an adjustable rubber cord and a Velcro fastener.

The pouch requires two MOLLE columns and two rows for attachment. This makes it particularly suitable for carrying systems with limited MOLLE space.

    Midi for Larger Handheld Radios

The Midi radio pouch accommodates larger CB, BOS, and VHF handheld radios up to 20 cm in height and 8 cm in width. Thanks to its open design, a longer radio can extend beyond the body of the pouch.

It is secured with an adjustable rubber cord featuring a Velcro fastener. Two MOLLE columns and three rows are required for attachment.

Midi Belt Clip for Belts and Service Belts

The Midi belt clip variant is designed for users who want to carry their handheld radio directly on a belt or duty belt. It does not require a MOLLE panel on the carrying system.

The exact fit depends on the radio model used. For compatible carrying systems, see the “Service Belts and Belts” category.

    Device-Specific Radio Pouches

    MBITR for AN/PRC-148 and AN/PRC-152

The MBITR radio pouch is designed for AN/PRC-148 and AN/PRC-152 radios, as well as MBITR devices. The reference dimensions are 214 × 67 × 39 mm. The radio is secured with a rubber cord and a buckle.

    Radio Case for SEM 52

The SEM 52 pouch was developed for the Bundeswehr SEM 52 radio, which has external dimensions of approximately 219 × 95 × 39 mm. A quick-release fastener and elastic strap hold the radio securely in the pouch.

This model is designed specifically for this device. It should not be used generically as a case for modern BOS, PMR, or other civilian handheld radios.

MOLLE, Faststick, belt, or belt loop?

Faststick is the Zentauron attachment system for MOLLE and PALS panels. The straps on the back are threaded alternately through the loops on the pouch and the carrying system.

You can find an illustrated step-by-step guide in the instructions titled “How to Properly Attach MOLLE and PALS Pouches.”

Depending on the available space, the MOLLE models can be attached to plate carriers, vests, chest rigs, battle belts, backpacks, and other MOLLE- or PALS-compatible carriers, among other items.

Before mounting, check how many MOLLE columns and rows are available at the desired attachment point. In addition to the pouch, there must be sufficient space for the antenna, cables, and adjacent equipment.

What should you look for when selecting a model?

    Device Dimensions

The height, width, and depth of the radio must fit the respective pouch. For adjustable models, the specified maximum dimensions apply. For device-specific pouches, the design and position of the controls are also crucial.

    Usability

The display, buttons, ports, antenna, and volume and channel controls should remain accessible in the chosen carrying position.

    Mounting Surface

For MOLLE models, there must be sufficient free space on the carrying system. Additional pouches, magazines, or cables must not interfere with installation or operation.

    Securing

The Mini and Midi models use an adjustable rubber cord with a Velcro fastener. The MBITR pouch features a rubber retention strap with a buckle. The SEM-52 model uses a quick-release fastener and an elastic retention strap.

    Carrying Position

The pouch should be accessible without unnecessarily restricting freedom of movement, shoulder straps, cables, or other equipment.

    Cordura® and Applications

All radio pouches in this category are made from Cordura®. Dimensions, mounting, retention systems, and available colors and camouflage patterns vary by model.

Depending on the radio and model, the pouches are suitable for military and law enforcement carrying systems, security and public order services, operational and event radio, as well as PMR, outdoor, and milsim applications.

Belonging to a target group does not automatically confirm device compatibility. The specific radio, its external dimensions, and the intended mounting method are decisive factors.

  • Gun Accessories

Firearm Accessories for Transport, Carrying, and Organization

In the Firearms Accessories category, you’ll find textile gear for the secure transport, carrying, and organized storage of firearms and related accessories. The product range includes, in particular, gun cases, rifle slings, sling adapters, and a selection of mounting, protective, and organizational components.

Depending on the product, these solutions are suitable for professional users and law enforcement agencies, as well as for training, competitive shooting, and hunting. Rifle slings and sling adapters support various carrying methods for long guns. Gun pouches and Velcro modules facilitate the organized transport and clear storage of handguns, magazines, and other accessories.

When making a selection, consider the intended use, the dimensions of your existing equipment, your preferred carrying method, and the available attachment points. The information provided on the respective product page is binding.

Select firearm accessories by product type

Gun Pouches for Handguns and Accessories

Zentauron’s firearm pouches are designed to provide padded and organized storage for handguns, magazines, and additional accessories. Depending on the model, they vary in size, interior layout, padding, and features.

Velcro surfaces on the inside allow for the flexible arrangement of pistol holsters, magazine holders, and other Velcro modules in compatible models. Lockable zippers may make immediate access more difficult. Compatible locks are available as separate accessories.

For competitive shooting, training, and official transport duties, the bag should be selected to match your existing equipment. Before making a selection, check the interior dimensions as well as the dimensions of the handgun, including any mounted optics or other attachments.

Rifle Slings for Various Carrying Methods

Rif le slings are designed for carrying long guns in various situations. Depending on the model, single-point, two-point, and multi-point systems are available.

The various carrying systems differ, among other things, in terms of freedom of movement, stabilization, and handling. Adjustment options allow for customization to body size, clothing, and existing equipment.

For professional users and law enforcement agencies, a controlled weapon position and coordination with other carried equipment can be critical. In shooting sports, training, or hunting, on the other hand, comfort, ease of use, and adaptation to the specific long gun are often the top priorities.

Sling Adapters for Attaching the Rifle Sling

The rifle sling is connected to the firearm via a suitable sling adapter. The product line includes various solutions, such as adapters with paracord, a three-bar design, a carabiner, or a metal hook.

The appropriate model depends on the existing attachment point, the rifle sling being used, and the intended carrying method. Since firearms, eyelets, and attachment systems vary in design, the adapters are sold separately. Not every adapter is compatible with every firearm or every attachment point.

Organized Storage for Magazines and Rounds

Velcro-compatible pistol and magazine holsters allow for flexible organization within compatible gun bags or other gear featuring Velcro surfaces. Depending on their design, the holsters can hold one or more magazines and be positioned appropriately within the bag.

Cartridge holders are designed to store suitable cartridges in an organized and easily accessible manner. They can be particularly useful for training, competitive shooting, and hunting applications. Before making a selection, consider the caliber, capacity, and intended mounting method.

Standalone MOLLE and belt pouches for magazines can be found in the Magazine Pouches category. Lockable pouches for ammunition are listed separately under Ammunition Pouches.

    Protective and Supplementary Accessories

Supplementary pouches and organizational elements can hold sensitive or smaller pieces of equipment and expand existing carrying solutions. These include, for example, protective pouches for rifle scopes, hearing protection pouches, tool pouches, Velcro modules, and locks.

The level of protection provided depends on the design, padding, and proper use of each individual product. Textile pouches are not a substitute for specially tested safety or storage containers.

What should you consider when making a selection?

The appropriate firearm accessories should be selected based on the equipment you actually have and the intended use. Important criteria include:

    • Type and dimensions of the firearm or accessory
    • Available attachment points and required adapters
    • Desired carrying method and adjustment options
    • Padding and interior layout of the bag
    • Velcro, MOLLE, or webbing attachment
    • Compatibility with magazines, cartridges, and attachments
    • Closure type and option for additional security
    • Material and intended use

Careful review of dimensions, attachment systems, and compatibility helps ensure that equipment is properly coordinated and prevents unsuitable combinations.

    Materials and Construction

Depending on the specific product, materials used include, among others, durable polyamide fabrics, CORDURA®, webbing, hook-and-loop fasteners, and metal or plastic components. Materials, construction, and features vary among individual products.

Many textile products are developed and manufactured at the Zentauron factory in Germany. Binding information regarding materials, dimensions, weight, compatibility, and contents of the package can be found on the respective product page.

    Notes on Transport and Use

Weapon pouches and complementary accessories help keep equipment organized and protected. It is the user’s responsibility to comply with all applicable legal regulations regarding possession, storage, and transport.

Before each use, check fasteners, seams, attachment points, adapters, and carrying elements for damage and to ensure they are secure. Do not continue to use damaged or unsuitable components.

  • Helmet covers

    Tactical helmet cover

The helmet covers are primarily used for military operations by soldiers and special forces.

The cover for the tactical helmet is made of hard-wearing Cordura. The material is equipped with IRR camouflage for use in night operations. Depending on the type, there are Velcro pockets on the outside for attaching IR patches, IR markers and other items to the helmet cover

Well-known Cordura as the outer shell

The basis of our helmet covers is the hard-wearing Cordura fabric. If you are familiar with our online store or have already read our blog posts, then you will probably know this material primarily for its durability and abrasion resistance. However, it is also equipped for camouflage during night operations.

Every Bundeswehr helmet cover from Zentauron is equipped with Velcro surfaces so that, depending on the type, IR (infrared reflection) / NIR (near-infrared) patches can be attached - this of course also applies to other objects that you want to attach to it. Who knows what ideas are floating around in your head? Whatever you have in mind, Cordura gives your helmet the right outer skin.

    Adaptable to any environment

The following applies to tactical equipment in the field: always remain adaptable and variable - or as Bruce Lee once said, "Be water, my friend". As we also like to live by this premise, our helmet covers make it possible to adapt the camouflage depending on the operational environment.

So, are you out and about in dense woodland, arid steppes or desert regions? No problem, with our Bundeswehr helmet covers, your helmet adapts to its surroundings like a chameleon. We offer you a wide range of colors and patterns, including

    • Three-color camouflage print / tropical camouflage or desert camouflage
    • Five-color camouflage print / spot camouflage (the classic)
    • Stone gray olive
    • Multicam

With this selection, you will always find the right Bundeswehr helmet cover - regardless of the area of operation.

Everything for the ballistic combat helmet of the future

The days of the old, clunky and heavy steel helmet are slowly but surely over (hopefully). Modern ballistic combat helmets are generally designed in such a way that, in addition to providing protection, they also allow night vision devices and other essential tactical equipment to be fitted.

We therefore have the right helmet cover for the so-called high cut shape, which allows the wearing of active hearing protection with a headset. This helmet cover is perfectly matched to the OPS Core / Fast helmet - always and constantly modern, just right for the ballistic combat helmet of tomorrow!

Soldier-proof fastening - uncomplicated and secure!

Even the best helmet cover won't do you any good if you don't know how to attach it. You may laugh or at least smile, but there's a lot that can go wrong - even if the consequences are more amusing than dangerous.

To ensure absolute soldier safety, fitting the helmet covers is extremely simple and secure. Thanks to the high-quality Velcro fastener, which is available both on the cover and as a self-adhesive counterpart for the helmet, the cover can be attached quickly and easily and always offers a secure fit.

Conclusion: everything you need on your head

The helmet covers from Zentauron are intended to be more than just a simple addition to military or police equipment. Rather, our intention is to see them as an essential element that raises tactical flexibility, protection and camouflage to a higher level and makes the mission safer for you - just like the best Bundeswehr helmet covers!

For this reason, we have opted for a combination of hard-wearing Cordura, versatile camouflage options and well thought-out design. This means that you, as a member of the armed forces, can choose the Bundeswehr helmet cover that best suits you and your purpose.

So go ahead, take a look around our category and find the model that suits you best! Would you like to find out more about tactical equipment, the outdoors and many other topics? Then take a look at our blog, where you're sure to learn something useful!

Medic Packs, Mounts, and First Aid Supplies

Medic equipment includes both medical supplies and the pouches, mounts, and inserts used to carry them. Depending on the product, you’ll find the following in this category:

    • Tourniquet pouches and tourniquet mounts
    • Medic and rescue bags
    • Medical inserts and organizers
    • Rescue blankets and selected first aid supplies
    • Accessories for securing medical equipment

Not every bag comes pre-loaded with medical supplies. Whether a product is sold filled or empty is indicated on the respective product page.

Securing Medical Equipment Within Easy Reach

When putting together a personal medical system, it’s not just the contents that matter. It’s also important that the necessary components are clearly organized and quickly accessible.

Depending on the specific model, tourniquet holders and medic pouches can be attached, for example, to MOLLE panels, straps, vests, plate carriers, or backpacks. The guide to attaching MOLLE/PALS equipment explains how to correctly attach modular pouches to a carrying system.

Before making a selection, you should carefully consider the attachment method, the size of the items to be carried, the direction of access, and compatibility with your existing gear.

Distinguishing Between Medic Equipment and IFAK Pouches

The “Medic Equipment” category serves as a thematic introduction to products for tactical first aid and field medicine. Various IFAK pouches are also available for the compact organization of basic personal medical supplies.

IFAK pouches are designed for individually assembled medical equipment. Depending on the model, they can be attached to a belt, a vest, a plate carrier, or another modular carrying system.

For larger quantities of supplies, larger medic and rescue backpacks may be the more suitable solution.

Selecting Medic Equipment Based on the Mission

The appropriate configuration depends on the planned mission and the available equipment. The following questions, among others, are relevant for making a selection:

    • Which medical components need to be carried?
    • Does the equipment need to be carried close to the body or in a backpack?
    • How quickly must individual items be accessible?
    • What MOLLE, belt, or Velcro surfaces are available?
    • Is an empty pouch or a pre-assembled set needed?

Compact mounts are suitable for individual components. IFAK pouches are designed for personal medical supplies. Larger medic pouches and first-aid backpacks provide space for more comprehensive equipment configurations.

    Applications and Target Groups

Medic equipment is used in various professional and private settings. These include, among others:

    • The German Armed Forces and military users
    • Police, fire departments, and other emergency services
    • Emergency medical services and workplace first responders
    • Security services and personal protection
    • Outdoor and trekking enthusiasts
    • Airsoft, Milsim, and medical training

You can find additional carrying systems, bags, and complementary components in the parent category “Tactical Equipment.”

The specific intended use, the user’s level of training, and the proper selection of medical supplies are all critical factors.

    Usage Instructions

Pouches, mounts, and organizers are designed for transporting, organizing, and accessing equipment. They have no medical effect on their own.

Medical supplies should be used in accordance with their intended purpose and by adequately trained personnel. The contents, completeness, and condition of personal first-aid kits should be checked regularly.

  • Patches

Tactical patches for identifying and customizing gear

Tactical patches are removable identification and decorative elements that attach to suitable Velcro surfaces on bags, backpacks, vests, clothing, and other gear. The Zentauron product line includes functional hook-and-loop patches for various tasks, as well as brand, identification, and ammunition patches.

Depending on the design, the patches are used to identify medical equipment, assign bags and their contents, provide visible or reflective identification, or customize existing gear. The products are intended for, among others, military and law enforcement personnel, rescue and medical personnel, security services, airsoft and milsim enthusiasts, as well as users in the outdoor and EDC sectors.

    Medic, Trauma, and TQ Patches

Medic, Trauma, and TQ patches are used to clearly identify medical equipment and the bags in which they are carried. They can be attached, for example, to IFAK pouches, medic bags, backpacks, or carrying systems with a suitable Velcro surface.

This labeling helps identify the contents of the equipment. The specific medical supplies actually contained in a bag depend on its individual configuration and organization.

    IR, Reflective, and Visible Markings

Visible and reflective identification elements are available to meet various requirements. These include IR reflective patches and Velcro reflective strips.

Reflective and IR patches are designed for different types of visibility. The specific features of each product can be found in the information on the corresponding product page.

Police, Red Cross, and DEU Patches

Police, Red Cross, and DEU patches enable clearly recognizable identification of clothing or equipment. They can be used to indicate a function, affiliation, or national designation.

Official or protected markings may only be used in the context for which they are authorized.

    Ammunition patches for marking bags

Ammunition patches identify bags or containers according to their intended caliber. The product range includes versions for 5.56 × 45, 7.62 × 39, 7.62 × 51, and 9 × 19.

The patches help organize the equipment being used. However, they do not replace a check of the actual contents. You can find suitable transport solutions in the firearm pouches section.

Zentauron Brand Patches Made of Fabric and PVC

In addition to functional identification patches, Zentauron offers its own branded patches in various designs. These include woven patches as well as Zentauron Rubber Patches made of PVC.

The designs differ in appearance, construction, and surface texture. Specific details regarding dimensions, material, and attachment methods are listed on the respective product page.

Attaching Patches to Backpacks, Vests, and Bags

The Velcro patches offered are attached to suitable hook surfaces. Depending on the model, such surfaces can be found on backpacks, plate carriers, vests, clothing, and modular bags, among other items.

MOLLE or PALS loops alone are not hook-and-loop surfaces. A patch can only be attached there if the gear also has a suitable loop surface or a corresponding patch holder. You can find the basics of modular attachment in the guide to attaching MOLLE gear.

    Collecting and Storing Patches

The Patchwall 70 × 100 is available for the organized storage of larger patch collections. Patches can be collected, sorted, and displayed on the hook-and-loop surface.

The Patchwall is ideal for operational units, clubs, teams, collectors, and users who want to regularly swap out or neatly organize multiple patches.

    Selecting the Right Velcro Patch

Before making a selection, you should consider the intended purpose, the patch’s dimensions, and the available Velcro surface. Additional selection criteria include material, color, visibility, and the intended area of use.

Depending on the product, the patch can be used for functional identification, to identify equipment, or as a branding and design element. Specific dimensions, materials, colors, and features may vary. Therefore, the information on the respective product page is always authoritative.

You can find other compatible gear in the Backpacks, Plate Carriers, Vests, IFAK Pouches, and Weapon Pouches categories.
