Data sheet
The splinter guard lower abdomen protection is a slim, flexible protective insert for the front of the lower abdomen. It is designed to supplement the protective equipment on plate carriers and protective vests in a targeted downward direction without unnecessarily restricting mobility. Thanks to its thin, lightweight construction, the insert remains comfortable to wear and supports clean, flat coverage in the abdominal protection shell.
The protective performance is tested as splinter protection in accordance with STANAG 2920. STANAG 2920 is a NATO test standard for evaluating splinter and fragmentation protection. It is tested with a 1.1 g FSP, a fragmentation simulation bullet that reproduces the typical fragmentation effect. The characteristic value V50 describes the speed at which statistically around fifty percent of hits penetrate and fifty percent are stopped. A V50 of at least 446 m/s is achieved for this insert.
The carrier material used is Twaron, a para-aramid fiber known for its high tensile strength and low weight. With a basis weight of 1.8 kilograms per square meter and a thickness of around 3 millimeters, the interlining is deliberately designed to be flat and flexible. It is manufactured in Germany and comes with a 5-year guarantee.
Important for classification: Ballistic protection reduces risks, but does not completely prevent injuries. Even if fragments are stopped, residual energy can act on the body in the form of blunt trauma and cause injuries
Abdominal protection targets the lower abdomen and anterior pelvic area. Among other things, large blood vessels run through this area, which is also home to sensitive structures and organs that can be particularly vulnerable to injury from shrapnel. As an extension to an existing protective vest, the insert can help to close the cover at the bottom and supplement the protective surface where classic front panels often end.
Always wear ballistics with the hit side facing outwards, i.e. towards the outer shell. The strike side is either marked as Strike Face or, if unmarked: Strike Face is the side without technical data or manufacturer information printed on it.
The side with technical data is always the back and must be worn facing the body. When fitting, make sure that the insert fits snugly and is not twisted or kinked in the cover.
If dirty, clean with a damp cloth. The welded TPU film prevents UV radiation and moisture from penetrating the aramid package.
Do not use chemical cleaning agents, as these can attack the TPU film and impair the performance of the aramid. Allow the insert to dry completely after cleaning and only store in a dry place.
The insert is only intended for use in a suitable carrying case. It cannot be used properly without a cover. For a secure fit, the cut must match the respective abdominal protection cover so that the insert does not move or wrinkle.
Please note: Other covers can affect the secure fit. In particular, check the shape, pocket size and closure to ensure that the insert fits snugly. If tested handgun protection is required instead of splinter protection, a VPAM 3 Plus soft ballistic underbody protector may be considered as an alternative.
Note: This product has been specially designed for use by armed forces or law enforcement agencies.
