Data sheet
The Zentauron Vulcan IV Spider is a modular tactical plate carrier designed for both hard and soft ballistics. The Vulcan carrier system combines large MOLLE and Velcro-MOLLE panels with SPIDER quick-release fasteners on the shoulders and waistband.
This makes the Vulcan IV Spider an individually configurable carrier system for ballistic protection and extensive MOLLE gear. Depending on the mission, the plate carrier can be worn in a stripped-down configuration or outfitted with hard and soft ballistics, magazine pouches, an IFAK, radio pouches, utility pouches, and other MOLLE accessories.
Within the Vulcan series, the Vulcan IV Spider differs from the Vulcan III—which is equipped with ZenTubes/ROC buckles—primarily in its closure system. On the Vulcan IV Spider, low-profile SPIDER buckles provide the quick-release function on the shoulder straps and waistband.
SPIDER buckles are used on the 50 mm wide shoulder straps and on the waist belt. The quick-release system allows for fast and controlled opening and removal of the plate carrier.
The pull tabs facilitate operation of the fasteners even while wearing gloves and under challenging conditions.
The Vulcan IV Spider’s external plate pockets feature separate slots for hard and soft ballistic protection. This allows the protective components to be inserted independently of one another and swapped out as needed.
Compatible hard ballistic protection, ballistic plates, and soft ballistic protection are available in the Zentauron product line.
The inner sides of the plate pockets that come into contact with the body are lined with 3D mesh. This breathable fabric promotes air circulation between the body and the plate carrier, enhancing comfort during extended use.
Additional padding can be inserted via the Velcro surfaces to further customize the plate carrier for the desired level of comfort.
The Vulcan IV Spider’s protection system can be expanded using the existing Velcro zones. For example, ballistic wings can be added to reduce the lateral protection gap between the front and back plates.
Depending on the required configuration, additional components can be added:
This allows the plate carrier to be adapted to different protection requirements and equipment setups.
The front and back of the Vulcan IV Spider feature large MOLLE and Velcro MOLLE zones. These transform the plate carrier into a modular carrying system for numerous pouches and equipment components.
Depending on the mission, you can attach items such as magazine pouches, an IFAK, radio pouches, utility pouches, multi-purpose pouches, folding shovel pouches, and other MOLLE pouches and bags.
The hook-and-loop MOLLE panels can also be used for patches, ID tags, and medical or team patches. The MOLLE rows allow for the flexible positioning of compatible pouches and gear depending on the specific task.
The Zentauron guide “How to Properly Attach MOLLE and PALS Pouches” shows how to correctly attach MOLLE and PALS pouches to a plate carrier or carrying system.
The waistband ’s length is infinitely adjustable at the back via Velcro. An integrated elastic section also allows for quick width adjustment, for example when changing clothing or wearing additional protective gear.
The sash is available in two sizes:
Both versions feature side pockets with Velcro closures. These can be used for side soft ballistics or for flat gear such as maps, flat pouches, and similar equipment.
Additional MOLLE panels on the cummerbund allow for the attachment of additional pouches and gear on the sides.
The Vulcan IV Spider is compatible with various components from the plate carrier accessory line.
Depending on the desired configuration, the carrier system can be expanded with the following components, for example:
This allows the plate carrier to be reconfigured for different tasks without having to switch the entire carrier system.
The Vulcan IV Spider is made from durable CORDURA 560 DEN polyamide 6.6. High-stress areas are reinforced and designed for use as a modular tactical plate carrier.
In appropriately equipped variants, IRR/NIR-compatible materials and components are used to reduce the equipment’s visibility in the near-infrared spectrum. Background information on this topic can be found in the Zentauron technical article “Infrared Camouflage for Tactical Equipment.”
The Vulcan IV Spider is manufactured by Zentauron in Germany.
The combination of hard and soft ballistics, SPIDER Quick Release, and extensive MOLLE panels makes the Vulcan IV Spider a flexibly configurable tactical carrier system.
Typical users and areas of application include:
The appropriate configuration depends on the required ballistic protection, the mission, the scope of equipment, and the desired arrangement of MOLLE gear.
