Modular Protective Vest for Soft and Hard Ballistics

The Zentauron Thor protective vest is a modular vest shell designed to accommodate soft and hard ballistic protection, as well as to carry tactical gear via MOLLE/PALS.

The Thor combines a large-area slot for soft ballistic protection with additional slots for hard ballistic protection and a modular carrying system for equipment. This distinguishes it functionally from a classic plate carrier, where the primary focus is on carrying protective plates.

The protective vest is supplied as a shell without ballistic inserts. Ballistic protection is achieved only through the use of suitable ballistic inserts.

MOBAST-inspired cut and modular protection system

The Thor’s design is based on the cut and functional principle of the MOBAST protective vest. The shape of the vest shell is designed to accommodate appropriately shaped soft ballistic inserts, thereby providing extensive coverage of the front, back, and sides.

The Zentauron Thor is not the original MOBAST protective vest used by the German Armed Forces, but rather a protective vest shell independently developed by Zentauron, whose cut and construction are based on that system.

In addition to accommodating soft and hard ballistic protection, modular expandability is a key feature. Additional protection modules and front solutions allow the Thor to be configured in various ways depending on the mission, the required area of protection, and the equipment carried.

Precisely Fitted Soft Ballistic Protection with Side Coverage

The soft ballistic protection designed for the Thor is tailored in shape to the protective vest shell. In addition to the front and back, it also covers the lateral areas of the upper body.

Therefore, a separate side ballistic insert in the cummerbund is not required.

The THOR SET VPAM 3 Plus soft ballistic vest is available to match the protective vest shell. Ballistic inserts are not included with the protective vest shell and must be selected separately.

SAPI-Cut Hard Ballistic Inserts

In addition to soft ballistics, the Thor features slots for hard ballistics. Hard ballistics in the SAPI-Cut in size M can be accommodated.

This allows the protective vest to be configured as a combined protection system consisting of soft and hard ballistics, depending on the ballistics used.

For other plate sizes, compatibility should be verified based on the respective dimensions and the selected vest size.

MOLLE/PALS and Velcro panels on the front

The front of the Thor offers several attachment areas for tactical gear, patches, and accessories.

In the upper front area, there is a combined MOLLE and Velcro panel with a 6 × 3 grid. Below that are two additional staggered rows of MOLLE webbing, which provide extra attachment options for compatible gear.

In the lower front section, the sash is attached to and secured to the protective vest via Velcro. This attachment area also features a loop side, allowing compatible Velcro accessories, patches, or corresponding adapter solutions to be attached there.

Together with the other MOLLE/PALS panels, the Thor can be flexibly configured with magazine pouches, multi-purpose pouches, radio pouches, and other compatible gear.

Back with MOLLE/PALS

In the upper section of the back , there is a 5 × 10 cm hook-and-loop panel for attaching compatible patches or hook-and-loop accessories.

Below that, the back features a large MOLLE/PALS panel with a 6 × 7 grid. It offers additional attachment options for compatible pouches, carrying system accessories, and other gear.

Adjusting and Securing the Sash

The Thor’s waistband is connected to the protective vest shell on both sides of the back via three double-strap channels.

The shock cord is threaded through the gaps between the double straps and woven together using the MOLLE attachment principle. This creates a flexible yet stable connection between the waistband and the back panel.

To adjust the width, the cummerbund can be slid further inward. To do this, move the respective double strap into the next available channel and then secure it again with the shock cord.

Since a total of three double-strap channels are available, the sash can be tightened in several stages on the back. The adjustment is made on both sides and allows for a basic fit tailored to the wearer’s body circumference.

On the front, the cummerbund is then closed and fine-tuned using the designated Velcro panels.

Expandable Protection for the Neck, Upper Arms, and Abdomen

The Thor is designed as an expandable protective vest system. Additional protective modules for various body areas can be attached as an option.

Depending on the specific model, these components can be supplemented with appropriate ballistic inserts. This allows the Thor’s protective coverage to be expanded modularly according to the intended application.

Snap Flap and Snap Rig for Different Front Configurations

The Snap Flap and the larger Snap Rig are also available for different front configurations.

The Snap Flap features 3 × 6 MOLLE channels, while the Snap Rig features 3 × 10 MOLLE channels. Both modules are used to secure the waistbands and provide additional MOLLE space for tactical gear.

Pre-configured front setups can be swapped out as needed using the QASM quick-attach buckles.

The Thor itself does not have a quick-release system. The Snap Flap and Snap Rig are modular front and closure solutions and are not designed for quick release.

Comfort and Adjustment

The protective vest features integrated shoulder pads. The Thor can be adjusted to fit different body sizes using the waistband.

Thanks to its design, the Thor combines protection against large-area soft ballistics with freedom of movement and the ability to carry tactical gear directly on the protective vest.

IRR/NIR-treated material and manufactured in Germany

The Thor protective vest is made from rugged Cordura® fabric composed of polyamide 6.6. The fabric used is IRR/NIR-treated and intended for military applications.

The Thor body armor vest is manufactured by Zentauron in Germany. The selection of materials, cutting, and workmanship are designed for long-term, heavy-duty use as a tactical protection and carrying system.
