Data sheet
The Zentauron Sentinel 55+10 Liters is a large tactical MOLLE backpack designed to carry extensive gear and heavy loads. The main compartment offers a volume of approximately 40 to 55 liters, depending on the packing height, and is closed with a roll-top closure. Together with the removable 10-liter lid, it provides a total of up to 65 liters of storage space.
A unique feature of the Sentinel is its combination of top-loading and front-loading access. The main compartment can be loaded from the top in the traditional way, while the large front opening allows direct access to equipment stored deeper inside. This makes the Sentinel particularly well-suited as a large military, tactical, and MOLLE backpack for users who want to transport extensive gear in an organized manner while still being able to access it quickly.
The external frame helps distribute the load to the hip area and creates space between the backpack and the back. This makes the Sentinel particularly suitable for heavy loads as well as for users who wear the backpack in combination with a plate carrier or a protective vest.
Depending on the packing height, the main compartment offers a volume of approximately 40 to 55 liters. The roll-up closure allows you to adjust the packing volume to the actual load and close the main compartment compactly.
Access is possible both from the top and through the large front opening. This opening measures approximately 18 × 50 cm and makes it easier to access gear in the middle and lower sections, especially when the backpack is fully packed. In this way, the Sentinel combines the advantages of a classic top-loader with those of a front-loader backpack.
On the inside of the front panel, there is additional storage space for flatter items or gear that needs to be organized separately.
The Sentinel is designed for heavy loads. The plastic external frame stiffens the back section of the backpack over approximately 50 cm and helps transfer the weight to the hip belt. Depending on the user, packing style, and intended use, the backpack is designed for loads ranging from about 25 to 40 kg.
The external frame distinguishes the Sentinel from traditional backpacks with a back system that lies directly against the body. The space between the back and the pack also improves air circulation.
The shape of the external frame really comes into its own, especially when combined with a plate carrier or a protective vest. The backpack does not rest flat against the protective gear being worn; instead, its design ensures it sits securely and at a distance from the back. This allows the Sentinel to be carried very comfortably even over a plate carrier, without the pack system resting unnecessarily on ballistic or padded areas.
The shoulder straps are approximately 7 cm wide and designed for carrying heavy loads. Load-control straps allow the backpack to be pulled closer to the torso and the load distribution to be adjusted while wearing it.
An adjustable chest strap further stabilizes the shoulder straps. The padded hip belt takes on a significant portion of the load transfer. Thanks to the pull-forward system, it can be easily tightened even under load. The hip belt is designed for a hip circumference of approximately 80 to 120 cm.
Additional MOLLE panels on the hip belt allow for the attachment of smaller pouches or gear items.
The Sentinel features extensive MOLLE/PALS panels for modular expansion. MOLLE loops are located on the front, sides, bottom, lid compartment, and hip belt.
This allows the backpack to be expanded with additional multipurpose pouches, medic pouches, or other MOLLE-compatible accessories. If you’d like to learn more about the system’s structure and functionality, you’ll find further information in the Zentauron guide to the MOLLE system.
The side panels offer additional space for equipment to be carried on the outside. Side pockets can accommodate canteens or similar gear, for example.
The lid compartment has a volume of approximately 10 liters and can be completely detached from the main backpack.
Using the provided straps, the top compartment can be used as a standalone small backpack. This transforms the large 65-liter system, when needed, into a compact additional backpack for minimal gear, short distances, or quick movements.
In military operations, this feature can be used, for example , as an E&E pack or escape backpack. For outdoor use, the small additional backpack is suitable, for instance, for short trips without the main luggage.
The lid compartment features additional MOLLE panels as well as zippered storage space. An elastic cord allows for securing additional lightweight gear to the outside of the lid.
With classic top-loader backpacks, frequently used gear can quickly end up buried deep in the main compartment. The Sentinel therefore combines top access with an additional large front opening.
This design is particularly well-suited for multi-day expeditions, training, trekking, and other activities where a lot of gear needs to be carried while still remaining easily accessible. Gear can be packed according to frequency of use without having to rearrange the entire contents to access items from the top.

The Sentinel is made from durable 500D Cordura. The material is PU-coated and waterproofed according to the specific model.
The materials used are IRR/NIR-treated. Zentauron explains more about infrared camouflage in tactical textiles in the technical article “Infrared Camouflage in Tactical Equipment.”
The Sentinel is developed and manufactured by Zentauron in Germany.
The Sentinel is designed for users who need a large, modular, and durable backpack for extensive or heavy gear.
With front access, an external frame, a roll-top closure, and extensive MOLLE webbing, the Sentinel is designed for modular gear, heavy loads, and controlled access to the backpack’s contents.
The Sentinel is not a classic lightweight hiking backpack. The system is designed for extensive gear, modular expandability, and heavy loads.
The external frame supports load distribution, while the combination of a roll-up closure, top-loader, and front-loader allows for flexible access to the main compartment. The removable 10-liter lid compartment further expands the backpack to include a small, standalone backpack.
This makes the Sentinel particularly suitable for users who are looking for a large military, tactical, or MOLLE backpack with a volume of up to 65 liters and who value an external frame, modular design, and high load capacity.
