The upper arm splinter guard (set) is a useful addition for modular protection systems if you want to additionally cover the side area at the armhole and the upper arm. Especially with many plate carriers and protective vests, this area remains partially open due to the design. With suitable upper arm protection components, this gap can be closed without unnecessarily restricting mobility.
A suitable upper arm protection sleeve is used for assembly. The Zentauron upper arm protection cover is designed for the Vulcan plate carrier system and the Thor protective vest and is attached using Velcro. The fastening strap made of 50 millimeter elastic band ensures a secure fit on the upper arm. Suitable upper arm protection cover for plate carrier and protective vest
This article is designed as splinter protection and is classified as a textile protection solution against fragments and splinters. The splinter protection is tested according to STANAG 2920, an established test method for fragmentation. The basis is a 1.1 gram FSP (Fragment Simulating Projectile). The relevant characteristic value is V50, i.e. the speed at which statistically 50 percent of the fragments penetrate the insert. The following applies to this splinter protection insert: V50 at least 446 meters per second according to STANAG 2920.
The carrier material used is Twaron, a para-aramid known for its high strength and low weight. The aramid package is protected from moisture and UV radiation by a TPU-welded film. The interlining is designed for a low construction height, with a thickness of 3 millimeters. The weight per unit area is 1.8 kilograms per square meter. The warranty is 5 years. It is manufactured in Germany.
Important: Even if splinter protection can reduce the risk, it does not completely prevent injuries. Residual energy can also lead to blunt force trauma. Trauma protection can help to reduce the load, depending on the carrier system and configuration.
The upper arm protection covers the upper arm and the transition at the armhole, i.e. an area that can be particularly exposed in the event of lateral impact. This is where important vascular and nerve structures run, especially near the armpit. The splinter guard is designed to provide additional protection for this zone and to complement the protection concept of your equipment.
Always wear ballistics with the strike side, i.e. strike face, facing outwards towards the outer shell. The hit side is either marked directly as Strike Face or, if unmarked, Strike Face is the side without any technical data or manufacturer information printed on it.
The side with technical data is always the reverse side and must be worn facing the body. When inserting into the neck protection cover, ensure that the insert fits without creases so that it does not slip. Only use the insert in a suitable cover or carrying case, as this is the only way to ensure a reliable fit and protective coverage.
Only clean the surface of the insert with a slightly damp cloth and allow it to dry completely before reinserting it into the cover. Store the splinter guard dry, flat and protected from direct sunlight. Avoid strong heat, creases and permanent pressure on the insert. Do not use a washing machine, tumble dryer or chemical cleaning agents, as these can attack the TPU film and impair the performance of the Aramid.
The splinter protection insert is intended for use in an upper arm protection sleeve. The Zentauron upper arm protection sleeve is compatible with the Vulcan plate carrier system and the Thor protective vest and is attached using Velcro. A robust fastening strap made of 50 millimeter elastic supports secure attachment to the upper arm.
If you require tested soft ballistics for handgun threats instead of fragmentation protection, you will find the VPAM 3 Plus upper arm soft ballistics as an alternative: Soft ballistics upper arm protection (pair) VPAM 3 Plus
