The splinter protection neck protector (SET) is a ballistic insert for additional protection in the throat and neck area. It is designed to be worn in a matching neck protection cover and used on a protective vest or plate carrier. This allows you to supplement your equipment with a sensitive area of the body that is particularly at risk in operational situations with a risk of splinters and fragments.
The insert is designed to be thin, light and flexible so that freedom of movement in the shoulder and head area is maintained as far as possible. For proper use, the splinter protection must always be worn in a suitable carrying cover. It cannot be used properly without a cover.
The splinter protection performance is based on STANAG 2920, a NATO test standard for splinter protection. It is tested with a fragment simulation bullet, FSP for short, in this case with a mass of 1.1 grams. The protection index V50 describes the velocity at which statistically fifty percent of hits cause penetration. For this insert, the V50 value is at least 446 meters per second.
Ballistic protection reduces the risk, but does not completely prevent injuries. Even without penetration, residual energy can act on the body in the form of trauma and cause injuries.
The material used is Twaron (aramid). Aramid fibers are used in ballistic insoles because they offer high strength at low weight. The construction remains flexible. With a thickness of 3 millimetres and a surface weight of 1.8 kilograms per square meter, the insole is designed for a practical balance of protection, comfort and mobility. It is manufactured in Germany and comes with a 5-year warranty.
The neck protector is designed to protect the throat and neck, i.e. areas where vital structures are close together. These include large blood vessels in the neck area, the larynx and windpipe as well as the sensitive cervical spine. In combination with a suitable neck protection cover, the protection can be worn all around the neck where splinters and fragments can pose a real danger during operations, in urban environments or in vehicles and buildings.
Always wear ballistics with the strike side, i.e. strike face, facing outwards towards the outer shell. The hit side is either marked directly as Strike Face or, if unmarked, Strike Face is the side without technical data or manufacturer information printed on it.
The side with technical data is always the reverse side and must be worn facing the body. When inserting into the neck protection cover, ensure that the insert fits without creases so that it does not slip. Only use the insert in a suitable cover or carrying case, as this is the only way to ensure a reliable fit and protective cover.
If soiled, clean the insert with a damp cloth. A welded TPU film prevents UV radiation and moisture from penetrating the aramid package. Do not use any chemical cleaning agents, as these can attack the TPU film and impair the performance of the aramid.
The insert is designed for use in a matching neck protection sleeve and is inserted into it. It can be used in the system on compatible carriers, for example on plate carriers from the Vulcan series and on the Thor protective vest. Other carrying covers can affect the secure fit, which is why it is important to check the fit after installation.
If a protection concept against typical threats from handguns is required instead of fragmentation protection, you will find a corresponding alternative under soft ballistic neck protection (pair) VPAM 3 Plus.
Note: This product has been specially designed for use by armed forces or law enforcement agencies.
